CHOCO PIE BANANA
When I first had “choco pie” ~ it seemed to me a bigger version of “Choco Mallows”. While the dessert is not an original Korean creation, the term “choco pie” is and people came to associate it with Korea. There are different variations ~ from dark chocolate to ones with strawberry jam. Now I have not tried them all but my favorite is ì°°ë–¡íŒŒì´ “chal tteok pie” or rice cake choco pie. Sticky rice cake is used instead of biscuit and powdered soy is added in the filling.
ORION’S NEW CHOCO PIE VARIATION
Now I have a new favorite ~ “choco pie banana”. I bought an 18-pc box last Wednesday while I was at E-mart. Two ajummas were hoarding the boxes into their cart and so I got curious and got me a box before they cleaned up the whole shelf!
The 18-pc box purchased impulsively costs 5,860 won (234.56 pesos) or 325.55 won per piece. As always, I looked at the ingredients list before putting the product in my basket. And it says that the “banana puree” is from the Philippines. Korea has been importing bananas from the Philippines for years. However, there are now bananas in the market imported from other countries. So I’m glad that they use Philippine bananas in this product.
YOU CAN’T EAT JUST ONE BUT YOU MUST!
Be aware that one piece of the choco-pie-banana is 173 calories! So be conscious when eating ~ two pieces is 346 calories which is the equivalent of one and a half cups of rice!
The choco pie banana is a winner in my book. It is not too sweet and the banana flavor is not overpowering. I prefer this over the original choco pie ~
Try it ~ perhaps even Kim Jong Un will change his mind about choco pies!
