Manny Pacquiao vs. Oscar De La Hoya

August 30th, 2008 Betchay Posted in sports 4 Comments »

I was watching TV Patrol this afternoon when they announced that Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao will fight Oscar “Golden Boy” De La Hoya on December 6 in Las Vegas. I’m sure this is going to be an exciting boxing event and will generate millions of dollars for both boxers. Who’s going to take how much? We’ll have to find out about that later.

Manny Pacquiao is 4 inches shorter than Oscar De La Hoya, whose height is 5′10 1/2″. The latter is also heavier. Pacquiao said that he’s expecting that it will be a difficult fight for him. De La Hoya is out to get vengeance for all the legendary Mexican fighters that Pacquiao beat. The report said that the fight will be worth more than $100 million! Whoa! This is going to be exciting!

Here’s a picture of Manny and Oscar from ESPN.

I wasn’t able to concentrate on watching the Beijing Olympics closing ceremony last night. I was chatting with my classmate about our homework. When my husband said that Bi is performing I thought I just had to watch.

Korea won the gold for Olympic baseball

August 23rd, 2008 Betchay Posted in sports 2 Comments »

Olympic baseball
Baseball is undoubtedly the most exciting game in this Olympics for me! We (and probably the rest of Korea) tuned in to the games between South Korea and Cuba even before the scheduled 7PM (KST) game. The game lasted for more than three hours (3 hours and 15 minutes) and Cuba’s last inning made everyone’s heart here pound. My husband probably drank a liter of water to keep his nerves and I kept on laughing the whole time.

After the play-off between Korea and Japan yesterday afternoon, my husband told me that he’s not expecting gold. He’s already happy that Korea won against Japan. Cuba is a tough team and one of the best when it comes to baseball. Korea’s win surely is not expected.

Final score is 3-2. Thank you Cuba for such a great game.

Goodbye, Beijing Olympics! Hello Chelsea FC!

August 23rd, 2008 Betchay Posted in sports No Comments »

We’re going to say goodbye to the Beijing Olympics tomorrow. I will surely miss turning on the TV expecting to see an Olympic game. At least, the Premier League had started and it’s time to support our favorite team - Chelsea FC. My husband follows their games as much as he can. Since we only have one television, I got used to watching them too and support them as well. I think he’ll be excited if he ever gets Chelsea FC Tickets.

One of our dreams is to watch a Premier League game in person. Manchester United was here last year and they played against FC Seoul. The team and the games received a ton of media coverage, from the time they landed at the airport until they left.

If the ball club visits here someday, I’m pretty sure it would be difficult to get Chelsea FC Tickets. After all, Koreans love them and Samsung is their sponsor. In fact, the club’s site is available in Korean.

Those living in the UK are lucky. They could easily watch any Premier League game. If they need to get Chelsea FC Tickets then all they need is Ticket Solutions. They specialize in Premiership Football and concerts and theatre events in the UK and around the world too.

Lee Yong Dae wink!

August 19th, 2008 Betchay Posted in sports 6 Comments »

Lee Yong DaeThere’s a new sports hearthrob in Korea in the person of Lee Yong Dae (이용대), the badminton mixed doubles gold medal winner in the Beijing Olympics that defeated the Indonesian team. He was born on September 11, 1988 and hails from Hwasun in Jeollanamdo (a province in the south).

I didn’t see the whole finals of the badminton mixed doubles but he was featured in a news program last night. Apparently, he’s turned into a sports hearthrob in Korea and girls are going ga-ga over him and his now famous “wink” that was caught on cam after scoring in one of his games.

Aside from his winning an Olympic gold medal, netizens are taking note of his resemblance to Korean celebrities like Lee Seung Gi (이승기), Kim Beom (김범), Jon Jo (존조), and Baek Jong Min (백종민). Check out his website, he’s got lots of pics there.
