When Jasmine Lee entered the National Assembly of Korea in 2012, she also started the project “꿈드림” or Dream School. Five years later, she and her team of volunteers are accepting applicants for their fifth batch.
The Dream School is open only to foreign migrant women living in South Korea. This is a way for Jasmine Lee to share what she had learned living and working in Korea as a talent, quasi-civil servant, speaker, multicultural organization leader and finally as a parliamentarian. She hopes that through this project she would be able to open doors for more multicultural women and empower them to participate actively in the Korean society.
The Dream School is not a conventional school where students learn with paper and pencil, books and exams. It is a “life school” where participants are exposed to the various opportunities they could get if only they knew about them. They will be able to meet people who are leaders in their field who could help the women figure out their dreams. One doesn’t need to have a college degree to join this school, but the right attitude to make it in the tough Korean society is a necessity.
One important requirement is fluency in Korean as lectures are held only in this language. Ms. Jasmine Lee believes that the knowledge of the language would enable the multicultural woman achieve her dreams and gain more respect from the society.
Lectures are held every last Saturday of the month and they usually lasts for three hours. The venues are announced in advanced but for the past years they were held mostly at the National Assembly.
