New Philippine Ambassador to South Korea
Last week, Malacanang Palace announced the appointment of Raul S. Hernandez as the new Philippine ambassador to South Korea. Hernandez is the current spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs or the DFA.
Since I was curious about the new ambassador who will arrive in early spring, I tried to search more information about him. Before becoming the DFA spokesperson, he was the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen, China. He also served as a Consul in Canada:
Before joining the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1993, Consul Hernandez worked with the private sector in the Philippines and Hong Kong. In the Home Office, he served at various times as Director at the Office of Middle Eastern and African Affairs, as Acting Director at the Office of European Affairs, and as Principal Assistant, then Assistant Director at the Office of Asian and Pacific Affairs.
His foreign assignments brought him back to Hong Kong and to The Hague, in the Netherlands.
Consul Hernandez earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at the Ateneo de Manila University. He took courses in the MBA program at the Asia International Open University in Macau SAR, China. He earned his Masters in National Security Administration (MNSA) degree from the National Defense College of the Philippines. He is also a graduate of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Command and General Staff Course. He holds the rank of Lt. Colonel in the Reserve Forces of the Philippine Marines.
He is married, with two children.
Raul S. Hernandez is active on Twitter answering queries and posting information on the goings-on of his department. Could be a good sign ;p
