Balikbayan box: door-to-door cargo from Korea to the Philippines
Such a long title! I posted a few years back about using Bagaheng Pinoy to send “balikbayan” boxes to the Philippines. I stopped using their services almost two years ago, when I found out about Supergem.
I don’t usually send boxes to my family in the Philippines. However, I have buyers who would ask me to get items for them here in Korea. Things like cosmetics, kpop stuff, and a few electronic items.
The last time I sent a balikbayan box through Supergem was just last week. Before that, I also sent a box last summer but that experience was horrible! I had to send them a message almost everyday to deliver a box and it took them almost a month to drop by our house. I remember I made the request when we were still living at our old apartment. We already moved to our current apartment before they dropped the requested box.
Anyway, my last experience with them was super fast. I sent them a text message to bring me two boxes: jumbo and regular. After a few minutes they called me and they’d be dropping by the same day. And so they did. Having them pick up the box was also fast. I sent them a message on Friday night and they came the following day, as I had requested.
Supergem boxes are available in two sizes: jumbo box and regular box.
Just to give you an idea of how different the two boxes are.
You can call Supergem Express at these numbers:
The shipping rate depends on the size and the destination. As far as I can remember, it’s 70,000 won for the regular box to Manila and 110,000 won for the jumbo box. They also deliver to Visayas and Mindanao (I sent a box there last summer and it took exactly four weeks to get to its final destination).
As far as my experience goes, Supergem Express is reliable. And how I wish they’re paying me for this post. LOLz…
UPDATE (2011.12.26): My sister said that the box arrived on December 20. A total of 17 days or less than the three weeks they estimated.
