I rarely buy Korean magazines since I still don’t really have the patience to read an all-Korean article, unless it’s news. Last week, I struggled to read the voting paraphernalia that the city government sent us. I understood about 70%, I think. That’s good enough since the last time I really sat down to learn the language was three years ago. Still, I hope to go back to learning Korean next month when I become a (temporary) full-time homemaker again.
Anyway, last Monday I bought Ceci Magazine. On its cover is Super Junior – and inside is a 15-page article on the famous Korean idol group. I didn’t buy the magazine because they are on the cover (on denial?). I’ve been buying the magazine for three consecutive months now. I have the one with 2PM, the issue that came after that and now the one with Super Junior. So why am I spending money for this mag? It’s because of the freebies!!!
The magazine itself is only 9,200 won but the freebies are worth more than that. Last month’s issue came with a 30ml bottle of SK II’s Facial Treatment Essence worth more than thrice the magazine price. I’ve always wanted to try SK II products but they’re really pricey in Seoul.
In the Super Junior issue of Ceci, the freebies that came with it are:
Inside, 15 pages are devoted to Super Junior.
The magazine is so thick and heavy at 2.5 kilograms! There are more ad pages than articles.
I think I remember seeing 2PM’s Nichkhun on three different ads. Here are two of them. One with his group 2PM and the other with Miss A.
I haven’t fully seen all the pages of this magazine. It’s mostly on fashion and trends. There are lots of pages on makeup, and there are some devoted on diet. Ceci’s target market is the single and 20s crowd.
