Airplane Movies

by Betchay on March 7, 2010

In two weeks’ time, I’ll be meeting my mother as she’ll have a 9-hr stopover in Incheon on her way to Los Angeles. She just arrived in the Philippines yesterday for a short vacation. She was lucky to get cheap flights whenever she travels from LAX to Clark Airport. The latter is just a 15-minute drive from our residence in Angeles City.

I like visiting the airport and I totally enjoy flying (the take-off and the landing parts of it). That is why I try to watch every movie that has an airplane or an airport in it. If I could list my top 5 airplane movies in terms of entertainment value, it would go like this:

1. Air Force One – Harrison Ford is one of my favorite action stars. His movies are easily some of my favorite action/adventure films – from Star Wars to the Indiana Jones series and of course his 90′s action flicks. Air Force One is one of those films that is quite predictable, unrealistic and sometimes doesn’t make sense, and yet it is just so much fun to watch.

2. Con Air – This movie has three of my most favorite Hollywood actors – John Cusack, John Malcovich and Nicholas Cage. The theme song of the movie, How Do I Live, is a top hit on the year it was shown. This movie is great with a huge bucket of popcorn and a soda.

3. Pushing Tin – Another movie starring John Cusack. The story is about two air traffic controllers. When I first saw this, I thought I wanted to be an air traffic controller too.

4. Top Gun – Starring Tom Cruise. I love this film just because I saw it when I was a teenager. During that time, I’d watch every movie that has a really good looking actor in it and declare it the best film :D

5. Airplane – I literally rolled on the floor laughing when I first saw this movie more than 20 years ago. I haven’t seen it in a long time but I remember watching it whenever it’s on air (usually on RPN 9).
