We currently have three point-and-shoot cameras at home: a Canon Powershot that my 3-yr old uses, a Samsung NV100HD that I got from the Korea Tourism Organization and a red Panasonic Lumix ZS3 that my brother gave me as a present. I love the colors made by Canon best, but the touchscreen module of Samsung is just so convenient; while the HD videos taken by the Panasonic is simply topnotch.
I really wanted to have a DSLR camera, and so does my husband. However, the compact digicams are just so handy especially in capturing “Kodak” moments. We were in the supermarket yesterday and my son tinkered with the displayed piano while singing to the theme of Thomas and Friends in Korean. I was glad I had my camera with me! I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be bringing a DSLR on a trip to the supermarket.
Just in case I finally decide to own a more expensive and bigger camera, I’ll definitely checkout Shopwiki’s Cameras and Photography buying guide for tips on what to look for in a camera and of course, where to get the best prices.

If you want quality and convenience, check the micro four thirds format, interchangeable lenses, in a small body. The SLR format is big, but the quality is unbeatable.
Hey, as a Canon T1i owner I just want to say that I absolutely love it ^^. It’s definitely an investment and not pocket-friendly though. I carry around a pocket digital camera and then bring the DSLR on trips where I think I’ll be doing some photography. It’s incredibly fun working with a DSLR, I believe’s it’s a worthy (also, big ><) investment. Good luck on your camera hunting!

I agree with the first comment: If you want a dslr-like handling/experience in your cam, buy a micro-four thirds cam te. very portable pero yung image quality eh pang dslr, tas napapalitan din yung lens. Here’s one that I would really love to get my hands on: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0909/09090204panasonicdmcgf1.asp
Gusto ko nung white.XD
Ang problema lang, minsan mas pricey pa sila sa entry level dslr.T_T
