I miss watching TV

by Betchay on June 10, 2008

When I called to my mother in Los Angeles last week, she greeted my son with “Tira-tira”. It’s from the Pinoy version of “My Girl”. She’s been watching the TV show through TFC (The Filipino Channel), which is available through DirecTV.

It’s sad that we don’t have something like DirectTV, so I don’t watch as much TV as before. With AFN gone, we only have a few English channels and I only tune in to OnStyle, FOXlife and Discovery. I sometimes watch Korean TV shows, mostly magazine, cooking shows and documentaries or investigative reports. I find their comedy variety shows corny.

I really wish we have a Sattelite TV worth subscribing too. It would be a good reason to buy a new television set. It was such a pleasure to surf through all those channels on a 52″ LCD TV at my brother’s house in West Covina. Of course, he’s got a Direct TV subscription. So if you’re planning to come to Korea, expect not to watch a lot of TV unless you’re a huge Korean TV fan!

there is actually a description of streaming tv broadcasts via the internet at technomad

you have to have some gadget installed at the source (e.g. a tv set in the Philippines), then you just use Sling player and stream the data via the internet. anywhere where there is a fast internet connection, you may watch the streamed data.

I have also used Sling player in the past.
We had this usability testing at some human interface lab in California and I watched the proceedings here in Korea via the internet. The lab just streamed the video data in real time via the internet.

I heard TFCKO is now available in Korea. I used to subscribe to ABS-CBN Now but they got expensive. At least Youtube is free.
