Philippine Embassy in Seoul

by Betchay on February 19, 2008

Last Saturday, me and my Pinay friends met at Ashley’s for lunch and later for noraebang (it’s imperative that we go to a noraebang or singing room whenever we meet!). We talked about our friends who were not present (that’s why I almost never miss a meeting :) ), the Sungnyemun (or Namdaemun), English teaching, books we recently read, our own lives and the Philippine Embassy in Seoul.

We noticed that the embassy doesn’t have it’s own website (I know why) and how some Pinoys are so frustrated with their service that they sometimes ask help from private entities. Sometimes when you need to get a document from the embassy, you have to go there thrice. First, to get info on the requirements; second, to apply for the document and lastly, to get your document. We also talked about the changes in the embassy, like opening its doors two Sundays a month for those who don’t have time to go there on weekdays. We thought that the embassy workers are quite lucky that they have a lot of breaks and don’t have to work the way other Pinoys do in Korea. They’re open from 9-12 AM and 1:30-4:30 PM. However, we thought that they might still be working beyond those times that they’re open.

When I first came here, the embassy was located in the southern area of Seoul. They moved about three years ago to Itaewon-dong, near central Seoul. IMO, their location is so much more convenient than before (more convenient for me too since we’re near the same subway line). The nearest subway station is Noksapyeong on line 6 (brown line), while the nearest bus stops are Blue 110 and Green 0013 and 0015.

Ashley’s food looks great, especially the pastas! @_@ And the prices are reasonable. How is the atmosphere and most importantly, the taste? =P

Had fun reading your entries. Oh btw, Amba Susan already left, and has been replaced by Ambassador Cruz. Sometime at the end of April, the website of the Philippine Embassy here will be launched. Also, there will be a newsletter released.

hi.went there one sunday but they said they only cater passport related services on sundays and other services is during weekdays only. i need to obtain NBI sana. i tried calling them now at napakahirap naman maka-get thru their line. nag-email ako at nag-bounced back rin dahil daw over quota na….it gives me a hint na nai-ignore na nila ang mga emails/inquiries dito? o sadyang they are just swamped of e-mails and workloads?

take the subway and baba ka s itaewon station.

Betchay September 24, 2008 at 8:07 pm

@princess d >> if she’s gonna send students to the philippines, she doesn’t need to get any permit… but the students might need a visa if they will stay for more than 21 days… my friend who brought with her korean students to the philippines for 2 months secured tourist visas from the philippine embassy

please see http://www.philembassy-seoul.com/consular.asp#pt8

if they will study in a regular school (or if they will stay for more than 59 days), they will need to get student visas :)

hi! sorry pero wala akong alam tungkol sa adoption… eto requirements sa citizenship noong nag-apply ako:
http://www.pinaysakorea.com/2008/04/29/korean-citizenship

kahit na may alien card ka, kung lumayas ka sa residence/address na nasa ACR mo, magiging illegal ka kahit na valid ang visa mo… kung lilipat ka ng tirahan kailangan i-report mo agad ang paglipat ng tirahan sa Immigration Office… in short tama ka, kung lumayas ka ay illegal ka na at pwede ka nang ipahuli… tumawag ka sa 02-3672-8988 if you need help or to get a better advice…

Reply

Betchay April 3, 2009 at 6:26 pm

hi ince…

here’s the info from the philippine embassy website…
Following are the requirements for Filipino citizens who intend to get married while residing in Korea:Certificate of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage (download form)
Duly accomplished Application to Contract Marriage (download form)
Certificate from the National Statistics Office that the applicant has no record of marriage.
Birth Certificate authenticated by the National Statistics Office.
Valid Philippine passport or Travel Document.
For applicants 18-20 years old, notarized affidavit from parents granting Parental Consent for Marriage.
For applicants 2l-25 years old, notarized affidavit from parents giving Parental Advise for Marriage.
Notarized affidavit of singleness executed by both parents.

If both the bride and the groom are Filipino citizens, their marriage can be officiated at the Philippine Embassy by a consular officer.

If either the bride or the groom is NOT a Filipino citizen, then the marriage may be officiated at a local Korean city hall; however, the Filipino citizen must first get a “Certification of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage” download form from the Embassy.

Abroad, a “wedding” conducted in the church is only a “blessing” and is not registered in the Philippines; only marriages officiated at the Embassy and at a local Korean city hall are recognized as legal and binding.

Additional documents related to marriages include the Affidavit of Eligibility for Marriage and the Report of Marriage. These will be available at the Embassy.

Filipino citizens are reminded to report their marriages officiated abroad to the Philippine Embassy.
