Bae Yong Jun’s The Legend (Tae-wang-sa-shin-gi)
I’m not really a Bae Yong Jun fan. I like him in the movie “Scandal” but I barely finished the drama “Winter Sonata” (with Choi Ji Woo). However seeing the teaser of his new drama, “The Legend”, made me decide to watch its premier. So last night, after watching the 9 o’clock news (KBS), I tuned in to MBC and caught the first episode of what is probably the costliest series in Korea’s television history.
As I still can’t understand Korean perfectly, my husband helped in translating the dialogues and explaining the “historical” scenes that were presented. His favorite subject in school was Korean history and he’s really good at it. He answered my questions from all the historical dramas we’d watched (Age of Heroes, Lee Soon Shin, Jumong, Dae Jae Young). I hope he’ll cooperate and bear with me with this new drama. He’s also not a fan of Bae Yong Jun but he likes Moon So Ri (so do I).
Going back to the drama. It was good that BYJ is in the first episode. Fans need not wait until the third (or was it fourth) episode to see their favorite lead actor (unlike in Jumong). The computer graphics used in the drama is simply amazing. Some of the scenes reminded me of “Lord of the Rings” (and BYJ reminded me of Gandalf :)) According to the official website of “The Legend”, the drama is shot in Jeju Island. I hope to visit the set (crazy things that make me happy) later when I go to Jeju-do. In one of the future scenes, they show the young BYJ amidst green tea plants and that’s probably in Boseong Cha-bat (been there!). Anyway, the drama is shown Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9:50 PM, right after the news. And it’s on now…
